My executive position paper represents the culmination of both my Master’s and Doctorate degrees at the University of Delaware, and reflects my deep commitment to enhancing media literacy in higher education. The project was inspired by my observation that many students entering higher education were ill-prepared to create effective media projects, including interactive PowerPoints, digital storytelling, and other visual narratives.
The primary goal of this research was to identify the foundational skills necessary for multimedia project creation and to establish best practices that could be integrated into existing courses or developed into a stand-alone course. By equipping students with these essential skills, the project aims to improve their ability to produce high-quality media content, thereby enhancing their overall academic experience.
This research not only informed my own projects but also played a crucial role in shaping the Online Learning Assessment initiatives during my tenure at Hostos Community College.

As an instructional designer at Hostos Community College, I played a key role in a committee dedicated to exploring best practices and conducting an in-depth analysis of online learning within an urban community college setting.
Our primary objective was to justify and establish a pilot program for a fully online degree, aimed at broadening access to higher education. In preparation for this program, I was entrusted with designing an online assessment tool to evaluate and enhance student readiness for engaging in online and hybrid course modalities.
This innovative tool was instrumental in supporting the program’s success and ultimately earned the prestigious CUNY Outstanding Project Award.
